- I've been looking into hiring a design professional for quite some time and noticed that there can be a huge range in fees from people in this field. Why is that?
- Design and decorating professionals will often base their fee schedules on one or any of the following:
- Project Scope and Size: this translates to more sourcing, drawing reviews and responsibilities over-all
- Experience, Creative Ability/Vision/Talent and Reputation: how many years one has been in the field, portfolio work, referals and word of mouth.
- Training/Special Skills/Educational Background
The most important thing to consider is what your needs are and finding the right fit. Other than direct referals/word of mouth, some ways of narrowing down your choices in a design professional, is by checking out their portfolio work, reading testimonials and checking out their work locally-if possible. Having a professional who listens and works very well with their client is extremely important. By emailing or calling and letting them know what you need, you can often see/feel how you will connect with your potential decorator.
- What is Feng Shui?
- Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art of orienting objects and towns to promote a healthy flow of chi. Its postulate is that all areas, large and small, have a distinctive energy that is guidable by rearranging objects (eg, removing an ornament from an apartment, or adding one to a particular corner of a room). To be avoided is: clutter, dark corners, gloomy colours, low ceilings, and sharp, pointed objects.
- Does balance mean everything must be equal?
- No! If something in a room is not centered add visual weight on the opposing side with artwork, accessories, or an object with similar height as its opposite.
- Are dried flowers good to have in a room?
- In Feng Shui, dried, dead flowers are a huge energy drain. By removing and discarding them you help to increase your potential and well-being.
